Well, yes. That's right. I’d swear by it if necessary.
Well, big greetings after a great vacation! You didn’t see hide nor hair of me all August—and I’m proud of it because I had a blast. You wouldn’t have been here to read anyway because you were all at the beach, and I saw you....
But hey, I've also been preparing some stuff for you that I'm really excited about, and I'll tell you about it at the end of the post.
Anyway,
In case some of you are still unaware, September has arrived, and with it, motivation is here too...
...or not.
It depends.
For some, including myself, September is a fresh start. It's the beginning of new projects. It's a new opportunity.
For others, it's a nightmare.
The mojitos, the beach, and the laughter are over, and we're back to a dull job. Counting the days to take out the swimsuit even before putting it away.
Which group you fall into is also a mindset.
I came to this conclusion a long time ago, and it's in our heads that our surroundings take on meaning through the stories we tell ourselves.
I returned home five days ago. After seven months away.
I confess I left somewhat disturbed by how many times a day I heard the word "Trankimazín" on the street.
Today, after the pandemic, the first contact with "normality," and after a well-enjoyed summer, I’ve noticed over the past five days that people are starting to change their mindset.
And forgive me for saying "mindset" three times already, well, four with this one. Get ready to hear it plenty more.
Many.
In fact, if you have to forgive me for that, you might as well leave my blog now while you still can, or you know what you're getting into.
MINDSET.
Anyway.
Let me give you an example.
This August, I spent a lot of time with a friend I adore. She lives in Mexico, and she's adventure in the flesh.
We always make an effort to spend time together, but this year life gave us a bit more time.
She told me that finally, after many years as a surf photographer, she’d realized she was one—about five years after everyone else.
She had started making money from her little ventures and was earning more, without any minimal advertising effort, than she made in a whole year in her "real job" as a teacher.
One thing led to another, and she finally quit her job.
Now she IS a photographer.
"Even without photography studies?"
Even so.
Well, hold on,
Who said she didn't have any studies?
I think that spending 5 hours a day in the water applying everything she had seen in countless hours of YouTube, plus reading 800 books and constantly observing other photographers, isn't considered studying. Of course not.
It's much more.
"But it's difficult to find work in that..."
It is.
For those who believe that a job only counts if it's working for someone else.
Because someone else has to validate your worth.
Because you can't start your photography business and focus on a niche that's willing to pay a lot and in need of people willing to get their feet wet.
Because you don't believe in yourself.
Others can, but not you. Others are extraterrestrial and were born in another galaxy with superpowers. Not you.
Or maybe it's just because they have money. Of course, because nowadays, with the internet available to everyone, you need massive investments to start.
All false.
Alright.
So one day, also this August, I went for coffee with another friend. I also adore and admire her for many reasons. She's also a teacher. And she’s also friends with my friend in Mexico.
This friend, the one from the coffee, doesn't live in Mexico, nor has she been out of her comfort zone for more than a month, ever.
She asked me about the one in Mexico, and I excitedly told her about her decision and how well I thought things were going to go for her.
Response: Oh well, what about paying taxes? (Let me clarify that here in Europe, our taxes are expected to pay for a retirement plan after the age of 65)
I changed the subject.
If the statement: "She's a fantastic photographer, after a 5-year process of realizing it, she's already working and earning more than as a teacher without lifting a finger, and she has a bunch of exciting projects on the horizon."
And your response is:
"But what about paying taxes?"
At this stage of life.
There's nothing more to say in that conversation.
I could tell her that obviously she'll be self-employed and continue paying taxes, that in Mexico, she paid less than she will now, that by the time we want to retire, there won't be any money left, that it's better to get insurance or make real money and invest it.
Or that life is lived now, in the present, and sometimes you have to take a little risk.
I don't know, many things could be said,
But it doesn't matter, because this is something that this particular person is not interested in hearing.
Because she doesn't believe in it.
IT'S A DIFFERENT MINDSET.
I'm not criticizing it; don't start thinking negatively.
Among other things, because as I said, it comes from someone whose life and mind I admire. And because this is the response of 85% of the population, even though sometimes I forget, and it surprises me.
But what surprises me even more is that lately, I'm seeing many more cases like the photographer's friend. More than the coffee friend.
And I'm happy about it.
Because I do believe in it.
So, the fact that all this is a matter of mindset, I don't think it's a surprise to anyone, but there's something not everyone has figured out...
And that's that your mindset shapes your lifestyle. But a lifestyle is chosen and created.
Therefore, our mindset is something we can build and change by first choosing our lifestyle.
So, we can have the life we want.
"You can be anything" is not just Barbie's speech; it's real life.
Except for people with very dire situations, unfortunately, they exist in the world.
We can choose a working mindset and consistently earn 1000 euros as long as we pay taxes to get our retirement right, which is what matters.
But we can also change that mindset to something like, "I'm going after my project. I'll use part of my salary to educate myself, and I'll be a writer, a singer, help others create their brands, or have my own travel agency."
Why would you do this if you're living comfortably as is?
Because the world has changed.
And if you don't flow with it, you'll wither away in it.
I've traveled the world, meeting thousands of people who one day decided to make this change and now live doing what they want, earning more in a month than people in Spain do in their entire lives, and adapting their projects to their desires because when you do it once, you can start over a thousand times.
My photographer friend, three years ago, told me she couldn't do it professionally, that it was only for people with connections, and that it wasn't possible with her personality.
Now, only one thing has changed.
She realized it was possible, and she believed it.
And with that, she's won the lottery.
What do you mean? What does winning the lottery have to do with this?
A lot.
First, if you believe it's impossible, you won't buy a ticket, and consequently, you won't win. This is the simplest and most obvious part.
Second, even if you did win, you're so afraid of the change that having money represents that you would mess everything up, and in two years, you'd be back to being poor, so it's as if you never won.
This is what often happens to entrepreneurs who struggle to make a dime from their business.
And there's one I like even more.
It's this: we close our minds to the idea that winning the lottery boils down to buying a ticket and having some numbers drawn.
But what if I told you that within a year, you could be making the same amount you’d win in the lottery—every single year—doing something fulfilling while still having your free time?
Isn't that a way to win the lottery?
Changing your perspective.
This is achieved by a mindset of abundance and entrepreneurship.
And what do I know about this?
Well, I know that six months ago, I wasn't even close to knowing what I wanted to do. I was still interviewing for jobs I was sabotaging myself and coming up with a thousand excuses not to pursue what I truly wanted.
My back hurt, and I was drowning in debt.
Six months ago, I said, "Enough, I don't know where or how, but I need to make a move."
I started reading books like crazy, signed up for courses, met with entrepreneurs, and one thing naturally led to another, and I gradually changed my mindset.
They told me, "If you don't give up, you'll be amazed at what you can achieve in less than a year," and I'm already on that path.
So, what happened?
Well, as I mentioned at the beginning of the post, there are some updates.
As a teaser, I'm launching my own business. I’ve healed a years-long back problem that had no solution. I've paid off all my debts.
And best of all, I've replaced frustration with excitement.
It's not that I write better now than I did six months ago, but now I know how to sell, how to believe in myself, and how not to give in to the slightest doubt.
As I also mentioned, I see a general shift in mindset.
I see that people want to move, want to improve their lives and their jobs, but they don't know how.
And that's why, now more than ever, my project, the one I’ve had in mind for so long, finally makes so much sense.
I'm going to help other entrepreneurs and adventurers (which is the same thing) who want to try something new, to start and grow their business online.
I trust it will go very well.
For now, I already have a queue waiting for me to open up. The fact that so many people already trust me feels like a win to me.
I'll share my 11 years of marketing (especially for what not to do), my nearly 2 years of learning copywriting, my over 10 years of traveling, my hundreds of books read, and much more, in a very easy way to guide them through a mindset shift with no turning back.
Only for the brave, of course.
I'll keep you posted...
For now, my first little gift for my subscribers is in the oven, and they'll receive it in their emails very soon.
My 'Guide to Unlock Your Adventurous Mindset'—for entrepreneurs and adventurers alike, since, as I mentioned, it’s the same thing. for entrepreneurs and adventurers, as I mentioned, it's the same thing.
When will it be finished? I don't know. I don't have a content calendar, and I won't have one.
Despite whoever disagrees.
It will be soon. Before autumn arrives. So stay tuned.
Well, if you also want to receive this guide and not miss out on my stories, which soon only my followers will receive (perhaps even before winter arrives), don't forget to scroll down and subscribe to my blog.
This weekend, I’m going to climb a peak and sleep up in the high mountains. Next week, I'll tell you many beliefs related to this that also apply to the entrepreneurial mindset.
